Dr. Darcy:
I’m a femme and have always been informed that I seem âstraight’, whatever this means. Once I head to lesbian taverns i will be ignored as âbi-curious’ and/or âfriend-of-a-lesbian’ woman. You will find two concerns:
1) really does becoming a lesbian signify I want to butch myself up in order to be taken seriously?
2) Are there various other women that are into trend, stylish restaurants, and that in essence fashionable unique Yorkers, for who getting gay is certainly not their unique whole identification?
You are not alone!
I had this question presented for me over and over again. It is not easy in a community and feeling undetectable, but modifying your appearance does not have to function as solution. I’m not claiming I never had a Brittany time where We questioned the significance of long-hair, the need for yet another pair of Manolos, and also the possible modification losing both would have back at my experience with this community. But when I’ve said before, how you can transform a stereotype is certainly not through conformity. The feminist activity was actually meant to give us choices, not limit them.
Having said that, I do believe there are more lesbian and bisexual women that have actually a plethora of interests including patronizing the “Page Six” businesses and spending obscene quantities of cash to sit down according to the tents of Fashion day. As a resident New Yorker, my advice would be to look-in this very magazine for the club-like locations, that will be where you will definitely discover femmes in figures!
Meanwhile, buy yourself a season of
The L Word
, throw on that facial mask you not have time for, and enjoy the validation the figures make available to people that happen to be femme into the center. Only to end up being safe, get rid of the buzzer if you have one, least you are in a weak moment.
